Beach, promenade, culture, and gastronomy

When our guests ask for a quiet day that includes beach, a short hike and some cultural visit, one of our proposals is Pasajes (Basque Country-Spain): cradle of the great whalers and Basque shipyards. A town divided into two banks: Pasajes San Pedro and Pasajes San Juan.

This time we started the walk in San Juan to get closer to the mouth of the sea. When we came back, some decided to take a bath in the cove of Puntas, others stayed in the Alabortza canteen having a chat while enjoying the seaview and a third group kept hiking. At 1:30 PM we all met at Casa Cámara restaurant, a 17th century building built over the estuary, with a fish farm and traditional cuisine.

After lunch, a private boat was waiting to take us across to the other shore and dock in the Albaola Museum, a shipyard where they are refurbishing in a handcrafted way a Basque whaler that sank in Terran Nova (Canada) in the s.XVI After the visit we followed the route follow by the pilgrims in the Camino de Santiago and hiked up to the lighthouse to bid farewell to the Cantabrian Sea. I am left with the excited gaze of one of our guests who was reluctant to return to the bus.
